Opening Doors with Digital Confidence: A LinkedIn Workshop for Women Starting Over

Recently we hosted an important and practical LinkedIn workshop for women new to the EU job market and what an interesting session it was.

Led by our team members: Aida Kurtalić (English Teacher & LinkedIn Mentor) and Ena Fejzagić Livančić (Intercultural Communication Specialist), the workshop was designed for women who’ve recently moved to a new country and are navigating unfamiliar professional systems, often without the language, network, or confidence to feel truly visible.

At WISE, we believe that digital literacy is one of the most important tools migrant women can have to rebuild, re-enter, or reimagine their careers. We want to help these women learn how to present their value, connect with purpose, and confidently seek out opportunity in a new context.

Over the course of two hours, participants gained practical strategies and real-time feedback on how to:

  • Build a strong and focused LinkedIn profile

  • Write a compelling headline and About section

  • Use job search filters and keywords effectively

  • Reach out to potential employers with confidence

  • Understand tone and cultural differences in online communication

One of the most impactful parts of the session? The live feedback segment, where we reviewed actual participant profiles: headlines, About sections, and more, and provided concrete, personalized advice on how to improve them.

This wasn’t about the theory behind LinkedIn, it was hands-on, real-time support, and the interaction was fantastic. Participants openly shared their challenges, asked sharp questions, and supported each other as they worked on rewriting their profiles, messages, and next steps.

Why This Matters

Women who move to a new country often face multiple, layered challenges when it comes to employment, and they’re not just about language or qualifications. They’re about recognition, confidence, cultural norms, and digital disadvantage.

  • Many international women are overqualified for the jobs they end up in.
  • They may be unsure how to show their skills online, or feel hesitant to be visible at all.
  • They’re less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the job criteria.
  • And they may face additional bias based on their name, background, or appearance.

That’s why digital tools like LinkedIn, when used with clarity and support, become more than a platform. They become a pathway to visibility, connection, and dignity in a new professional life.

This workshop is part of WISE Austria’s broader mission: to empower women through skills development, mentorship, and community, especially those who are navigating the challenges of migration and transition.

If you're interested in joining a future session or partnering with us to bring digital literacy training to more women, we’d love to hear from you.
